Conference Hosts HIMSS-Ontario invites all Healthcare Professionals (providers, clinicians, managers, informaticians) from all industry sectors; information technology/management professionals, academics and health planners to submit their abstract for consideration in the 2011 itHealthcare Canada program.

CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

itHealthcare Canada brings together some of the most respected industry leaders to discuss relevant topics and trends. The conference program provides introductory, intermediate and advanced level training for professionals in the itHealthcare industry field. Focused on information management and innovation in I.T. products and services.

The 2011 conference theme is Enabling the Power of People and Creativity through Technology. Presenters are asked to consider their submissions from at least one of the following perspectives:

  • Planning: Implementation Methodologies and Framework
  • Execution: Models, Approaches and Options
  • Practice: How to Use and Apply
  • Results: Delivering Outcomes, Achievable Effects, Impacts and Lessons Learned

GUIDELINES FOR ABSTRACTS

Note: at this stage presentation descriptions should contain no more than 250 words.

Within the submission process there are 13 presentation categories to choose from and presentations can be from any one of the following:

  • Healthcare sector: acute care, complex continuing care, long-term care, community care, public health etc.
  • Functional areas: management, administration, back-office, clinical, education, research, technology
  • Perspectives: legislation, consumers, community, government, etc.

Questions to consider as part of your abstract:

  1. What were the objectives / strategies / theories applied?
  2. How has the power of people, creativity and technology enabled the success of the project?
  3. Did the initiative work, not work, and why (pitfalls, challenges, lessons learned, results, etc)? What are the success stories?
  4. Can this or a similar effort move forward to a new level, for example commercialization, go to market, other next steps?
  5. Can the work be replicated in other jurisdictions or business settings?
  6. How did the project help to improve the customer experience with healthcare delivery?
  7. What is the take away - how will the learning objectives help the audience perform their function better?

View Points for Submissions:

Abstracts submitted will be considered for inclusion under the following viewpoints.Note: click on the view points below for a series of questions that may assist / guide you in your submission preparation:

  1. Industry Perspective- focus on topics supporting the business of healthcare and information management.
  2. Practice and Academic-focus on topics related to the support of clinical practice and research.
  3. Information Services-focus on topics supporting information technology and information management.
  4. Users and Consumers, a Practical Perspective- focus on topics having an impact on users and consumers from a practical perspective.
  5. Strategic Perspective, View from the Top-focus on the strategic positioning of organizations and senior management restructuring from a local, regional and provincial perspective.
  6. Governance, Accountability and Transparency-focus on topics supporting both keeping the healthcare delivery and eHealth agenda on track from a local, regional and provincial perspective.

Presentation Formats

  • Keynote/Feature Speaker Sessions (1 hour) address all attendees and should have broad appeal
  • Panel Discussions (1 hr 40 min) are sessions with one announced theme and a list of participants who address that theme but do not present separate formal papers.
  • Concurrent/Satellite Symposia Sessions(50 min) of a more in-depth nature and allow at least 10-15 minutes for Q&A
  • Demonstration Sessions (50 min) of a best practice, product or new technology and includes active hands-on participation from audience
  • Poster Presentations will be displayed in a separate area to allow delegates to engage in one-on-one discussions with the presenter

SELECTION CRITERIA

The Education Committee will review all abstracts - selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • Topic & relevance to the conference theme and delegate base
  • Concise statement of thelearning objectivesof your presentation to attendees (e.g. how will this help them in their work)
  • Speaker's expertise, knowledge and ability to challenge delegates
  • Presentation experience of speaker
  • Absence of commercial sales content for services or products

CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE

All Submissions Must be ON-LINE. Submissions received by E-mail, Fax or Hardcopy will not be accepted.

REVIEW PROCESS

The Education committee will conduct a thorough 3-phase review process of all submissions ensuring that each view point is reviewed by a professional within that focus.

All submitters will be notified by email two-four weeks following the close of the call for abstracts - Please note that reviewer comments will not be supplied to proposal submitters.
