FEATURE SPEAKER:     Sam Marafioti
9:45am - 10:45am                             VP Corporate Strategy & Development, CIO, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre
Personal Health Records 2020
Sam MarafiotiNot too long ago, the notion of having information "at your finger tips" mostly meant "access to information" which resulted in the development of tools and technologies geared towards supplying information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Today, with the ubiquitous rise of the networked world, and mobile and hand held technologies, this same phrase now rings something far more true to the original term than we ever imagined. Ironically, while this revolution speeds ahead, health care providers and policy makers still seem to be struggling with the eHealth agenda and the development of electronic health records that all health care consumers need. With more and more personal computing power now literally in the hands of these same consumers, and more and more personal information now on the move - what does this mean for the eHealth agenda and concept of an "electronic health record"? Are access to information and transaction strategies still the foundation? Or are patient-centric strategies that enable the sharing personal health information now the real opportunity? This presentation will explore the opportunities now being created through the development of personal health records and the coming of age of the technologies that are now enabling the "health care information consumer" and what that means for health care in the future.

FEATURE SPEAKER:      Lewis Hooper

Moving the eHealth Agenda Forward: From Here to Where?
lewis-hooperPatients expect physicians and front-line caregivers to be able to access their health record and provide sound advice with a confidence that comes from being fully informed on the patient's medical history. From Here to Where will dissect the journey from the perspective of someone at both the local and strategic level along with determining methods to ensure the "Where" is not only the right end point but also provides the best results once we arrive. The roadmap of the discussion will cover the following areas:

  • eHealth Evolution - What is the Vision?
  • Where is Here?
  • e-Health Goal - Where is There?
  • What's being done currently to achieve the goal?
  • Both at provincial and LHIN/Local levels A Health Check of current initiatives: - What's missing in all current activities?
  • What are barriers to proceeding in a reasonable timeframe?
  • How can we connect the pieces together to achieve the goal?
  • What are the successes?
  • What Lessons Learned?
  • Where do we go from here?
