PLENARY PANEL FORUM:
The Benefits of Collaboration: Integrating Change Management into the Implementation of a Provincial Wait Time Registry -
The Nova Scotia Experience
3:30pm - 5:00pm
Tuesday October 5

Access to healthcare services has been identified as a fundamental concern for governments, healthcare providers, patients, and the public. As a first step to improving access to surgical services, the Nova Scotia Department of Health created and implemented a Patient Access Registry (PAR NS) in all health districts with a goal to better inform decision makers about patient's surgical wait times. The success of the project was in large part due to the collaboration of business process redesign (BPR) and change management (CM) efforts. Through dedicated BPR and CM resources, a comprehensive and strategic approach was taken to ensure stakeholders were engaged and well prepared for the implementation of the new registry.
