The Heart and Stroke Foundation has developed a set of eTools that have been placed in the hands of consumers, to help them better understand, prevent and manage their chronic disease. These eTools have been used by over 100.000 people across Canada. In using these tools, the Heart and Stroke Foundation has built an extensive data base that has proven to be a boon for research purposes. This presentation will highlight the development, use and experience related to the suite of etools and the research opportunities and provide a glimpse into a possible future of consumer engagement and empowerment in managing their health.
The Future in Personal Health Care Records
Sam Marafioti, Vice President Corporate Strategy and Development, CIO Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Not too long ago, the notion of having information “at your finger tips” mostly meant “access to information” which resulted in the development of tools and technologies geared towards supplying information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Today, with the ubiquitous rise of the networked world, this same phrase now rings something far more true to the original term than we ever imagined. This presentation will explore the opportunities now being created through the development of personal health records and what that means for health care in the future.
